We worked with the ICP for many of their exhibitions, from their days in midtown to these examples from their Essex street location. It was a pure pleasure to work on the William Klein retrospective, “Yes,” curated by David Campany. The show took over the full museum, and the design employed bold color and large graphics to complement Klein’s work. For the viewing gallery, we wheat pasted posters of his movies on the outside of the space.
Close Enough was an exhibition curated by Charlotte Cotton to showcase the work of women photographers at Magnum. The title comes from the quote attributed to Robert Capa: “If your photos aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough.” We set the title in large type that broke out of the frame—a typographic take on a very close view.
The second floor galleries have a lower ceiling that can lend itself to more intimate title treatments. The identity for Inward capitalized the font, Beatrice display, that has an amazing w. The logo for Marlene Dietrich used the angle of her hats as inspiration for a tilted center line.
